Pirooz Fereydouni, Incoming MS1

Hello!

My name is Pirooz and I'm originally from Iran but lived in the Bay Area for 9 years.

I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2021 and worked in clinical research on a chronic back pain study for 2 years before becoming an anteater enthusiast. During my two gap years, I discovered my deep-seated passion for serving individuals struggling with chronic pain, which ultimately drew me towards the field of pain medicine.

It's this reason, among other factors, that led me to choose UCI SOM. The pain medicine team here, much like the esteemed faculty at UCI, is dedicated to teaching and supporting students, and I've been fortunate to benefit from their guidance.

Although I may miss Northern California, meeting the incredibly fun, kind, and diverse group of students in my class has made the transition extremely smooth. At UCI, I'm actively engaged in several research projects under the mentorship of our pain medicine faculty. Additionally, I am an intern at a student-run free clinic in Fullerton, which caters to uninsured patients. In the coming year, I hope to take on more mentorship and teaching roles as I'm deeply passionate about medical education. In my free time, I enjoy photography (mainly landscape, but some astrophotography as well when I get the chance to drive away from the SoCal light pollution), brewing coffee, discovering new restaurants, and hiking with friends.
